Harley Week and BBW Comparison

The way Myrtle Beach handles these 2 weeks have become a big debate and has spurred a lawsuit. I would like to just get my 2 cents in and encourage everyone to respond whether for or against what I say here.

First of all, let's get this straight. I am NOT defending Myrtle Beach. I don't like what they do during BBW and I don't like the way the cops treat people during BBW. But I must note the difference in the 2 rallies. I have never been to Harley Week so the only thing I will comment on is the number of attendees.

The difference in the number of attendees of these 2 events is so large that it plays a big role in how Myrtle Beach handles the events. Harley Week attracts about 60,000 people. BBW attracts over 350,000 plus being a holiday weekend, you have about 50,000 - 100,000 more people (tourists) who come to Myrtle Beach. So you are looking at about 400,000 - 450,000 people as compared to 60,000 people. Common sense will tell the average person that you WILL need more security during BBW and you will need different traffic patterns during BBW. It's not a race issue, it's a population issue. That is also why some businesses close during BBW. Not because they don't want to serve you but because they can't. Because their employees are stuck in traffic. Let's take this "closing businesses" to another thread. I would like to hear some opinions, comments, complaints, etc on this issue.

But before I leave this thread, please people, think of the difference in the number of attendees of both events before you start screaming "Racism!"

I hear where your coming from as far as being more people durning BBW then Harley week but I have been there for the last four days of Harley week for the last five years and there are alot more the 60,000 people there at that time and there is more crazy nuts that goes on durning Harley week that goes untalked about, you see alot fewer police, less street being block then what you see at BBW and when i get a chance to talk business owner they say the stuff that goes on at Harley week and what goes on at BBW is different they would do BBW anytime, plus they say they dont spend money like we do and they have more accident then we do and they steal more motorcycle that week, but year after year they send less police there and more and more to our event...So to me you tell me what more crazy

Yo im actually from Myrtle Beach and ive seen the difference in the events and how the people who actually live there react to the 2 different ones. First of all there is a race thing, peoples be trippin when they hear that BBW is coming, most people living there just leave cause they say they dont want to deal with it, but they sure do stay for harley week. The population is a little different, but it looks like we get more during the BBW thats because the police make it look like that. During harley week they are mostly down near south myrtle Beach and Surfside where the SBB bike joints are. Not many harley riders chill up near atlantic beach and northern myrtle Beach. They also get extra police just for BBW, They dont even get extra for Harley week. I guess they though get we like to get crunk, its kind of messed up, but i dont let the police get in my way, we there to have fun and yo now. Holla at ya boy.

I am also from Myrtle Beach. When Harley bike week comes there are not as many police, but when BBW comes you can't turn a corner without seeing one.

BBW and cruiser week.

During cruiser week the local PD turn a blind eye to
the loud pipes , beer breath, and burnouts.
If your Busa has "the look" you will get hassled.
I ( a 40 year old white fart) realize that a set a chrome
rims, 4 into 1, bonny box, extended swingarm, trick paint, and a 50 shot can make a zook a lot bigger investment than a 1200 sporty. ( And require a LOT more riding expertise).
I ride my BMW to M.B. every Friday to open my business
and definetly notice the severe enforcement in place.

Yes, there is a big difference. And with good reason. A large portion of the participants in BBW have absolutely no respect for the community they are visitors in. They drive recklessly, putting the entire population at risk, and blast their booming bass music harming everyone's hearing. They make Myrtle Beach a hostile environment for everyone who lives in the area. I only wish the whole city would close down and they'd boycott again and go somewhere else.

Do you expect to treat people like second class citizens and have no backlash? Cruiser week covers all the Myrtle Beach area while BBW is concentrated in Atlantic Beach. Compare statistics.
Just guessing , I think median income levels between the two events plays a bigger role than anything else.

I am a regional manager for a large corporation and I can tell you a very basic concept of business. Money is green.

As for closing down the city , what percentage of black folks are police, firemen, doctors, and other essential positions? Do you wish for them to leave you hanging?
You must want to pay more taxes to keep your ideal lifestyle intact.

You obviously came to this forum to vent your anger that everyone does not subscribe to your narrow perception of what and how people should behave as.

I hate to say it, but the Black police officers I came across are as nice as can be. And some of the White ones are too... but some of those pregnant doges are on the biggest f**kin' power trip. And that's the one thing I don't have time for. If you approach me with respect (man to man) and tell me to stop doing somethin' I shouldn't be doing.... I'll stop. The cops are wrong for the harrasment they are doing, they were throwing tickets out like a free lunch, those bastard's are keeping the money because that is the only time of the year the ticket office is staying open the whole weekend, and also some cops are pocketing the money.... since when any kind of traffic ticket is $500, they are wrong and they are using those badges to get paid, I hope they get what's coming to them.

Overall cops are going to be cops you have not a very nice persons and you have the serve and protect kind. Did you know in 04 there were 0 (ZERO) fatalities at BBW. Now the week before was a different story because there were fatalities. They cannot hide those statistics from the upper upper guys, mayor, police chief, etc. I can say this, there will still be more cops at BBW and they will continue to do what they did in 04 because they consider last year a success story, as for HBW I'd expect an increase but overall nothing drastic eventually the cops will come to there senses and say enough is enough when a hog with an impaired rider crashes into a family causing a more serious concern for police presents at HBW. There still will be racist folks there closing stores early, jacking up there hotel prices, etc. It's your choice to be there though so remember that, I hear ATL is popping that week. Overall if you obey the law don't provoke them cops by reving or burning out or wheelies you straight. Also my young brotha's and sista's you will not win trying to be a tuff with them cops give them respect wether or not they f**king with you or not.. If he's power tripping feed his ego, yes officer your right, I'm wrong and I respect your postion etc.. I actually walked away from a ticket doing 1 wheel on Kings hwy with that approach.. Ladies are a thang of booty... holla, have a good time, also If you want to enjoy bike week more go to events bike clubs have parties, also there are bike shows, stunt shows, try and plan some of that stuff out before you get there and you'll notice how much you can really enjoy bike week, trust them ladies will be out on the strip all day invite them take em wit you people the want to see what's out there other then the strip just as you do.. If somone is interested in having Bike Week relocated to another city and state get get on it. The Bike Community will support you trust I'm in a Bike Club myself and all the bike clubs communicate with eachother it can be done are you willing to step up to the plate and make a difference?
